I'm working with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (http://www.ige.ch) on a project about the handling of patent documents. One part of this project is the long-term archival of patent documents in two different formats: - a PDF version (more specifically PDF/A-1b) - the original XML format plus images that were used to generate the PDF (using Apache FOP, of course)
These two variants should be packed together in one single file together with metadata. We wrote a small paper which discusses several simple ways to accomplish this. We haven't found anything this simple on the net so far. However, we found larger specifications (such as kopal's UOF) which are probably too complex for our needs.
