That's interesting. And if I told you, that what FOP 0.20.5 produces is
also Level 2? There are quite a few Level 2 operations used in the
PostScript renderer there. It would be interesting to know what exactly
this fax software is and if it's really just a Level 1 implementation
maybe with some Level 2 extensions or if it contains a buggy Level 2
implementation.

But then, you say you're using a fax software. Wouldn't it be an
alternative to use TIFF instead?
