If anyone does come across a version of Times that supports Chinese
characters, I'd very much appreciate a link :-)

I think there is a scenario where Times New Roman is desirable - when
some of the text is to be rendered normally in English as Times serif,
alongside passages of Chinese text. I'm currently looking into this
exact scenario at the moment.

The only font I've been able get working for Chinese is Arial-Unicode
but it means that for generic paragraph text one must choose to default
to Arial-Unicode if one wants to capture the Chinese glyphs and any
other text within the same document flow.

cheers

Andy

The usual "arial unicode" font contains glyphs for almost
all Chinese characters. If you find a Times New Roman font
with Chinese glyphs, then yes, it is possible to to display
chinese characters in Times New Roman font.

Strictly speaking, the question doesn't make sense, because
there is no proper mapping of the Times Roman serif style
to a font style for Chinese characters.
