I remember this as one of the issues in the translation to Ata from Scsi.  Digging 
now, I'm reminded ...

Some see the once-optional Ata op x10 Recalibrate as analogous to Scsi op x01 Rezero 
Unit.  1993 Scsi-2 9.2 Commands for direct-access devices technically classifies Scsi 
op x01 as "optional", but some implementation traditions do not respect this wish.

And the once-optional Ata op xE1 IdleImmediate doesn't work well as a substitute 
because of the weight of power management traditions that interfere with the plain 
meaning of that op.

Accordingly, some preferred the once-mandatory Ata op x70 Seek as a substitute for x10 
Recalibrate.
