I'm sorry, I don't buy this excuse. If you are using ATA devices then you should be paying attention to what T13 is doing. And need I say this? You should be reading/using the current ATA/ATAPI-x standards! You don't need to be a member and you don't need to come to meetings. You can even wait until NCITS (or whatever their name is today) to do a public review of a proposed standard. The key there is PROPOSED... I am very sure if there is something in a proposed standard that should not be there then T13 would quickly fix the problem. The same is probably true for T10 and the SCSI standards. SET FEATURES SOAPBOX ON If you are using ATA devices and suddenly discover that FORMAT TRACK, R/W LONG, RECALIBRATE or SEEK are "obsolete" are are now rejected by a new ATA device or implemented as a NO-OP, then that is YOUR PROBLEM. T13 did not obsolete these commands without lots of warning to those that care enough to watch what T13 is doing. In other words... And I'm sorry... Stop crying... Join T13... Or at least keep an eye/ear on what T13 is doing! SET FEATURE SOAPBOX OFF *** Hale Landis *** www.ata-atapi.com ***
