Hi Gana,
Yes that is correct.  Software still sees a DEV bit, as before.  The
manipulation of what cycle goes to which port (as per DEV bit) is done by
the HBA.  The master-slave framework held by software still holds.
Everything that software expects on a parallel ATA channel with a master
device and slave device on the parallel cable can be emulated by an HBA with
two devices on two serial cables.  But, pointed out by Edwin J. Pole II,
that is outside the scope of the serialATA specification, so it's more of an
issue of what the HBA supports.

If this is the case, then the software would be making use of the device bit
in the Device Selection Register to switch between the devices in two ports
?

And for the software, the master/slave terminology holds good, am I correct
