Hale,

    The tool was not intended to be a "T13" thing, but rather something
available to folks who were interested.  I talked to several folks at T13 in
Vegas who were interested in seeing it.  I am glad it is still being
pursued, I personally think its a good thing if done properly.  Of course,
the argument is always, is the "compliance tool" properly interpreting the
spec....so could also be a "can of worms".

    One of the other issues with HPA is related to the point Mukesh brought
up.  Some folks are sending HPA commands based on drive size (below 137GB)
rather than based on the "48 bit supported" bit in IDENT.  This results in
"scenarios that may cause issues" to quote an old WDC teammate.
