For ATAPI CD/DVD devices (to date): I never seen a serial number in
the IDENTIFY PACKET DEVICE data and I've never noticed a serial
number returned in the SCSI INQUIRY data either.
Try Iomega REV drives, both op xA1 Identify and op xA0:12 Inquiry.
PDT = x05 = DVD/CD, but serialized (at zero recurring cost) same as 
Iomega Zip drives.
