You did "select outside", and components inside the outline lit up ? How
counter-intuitive.

I think I've seen something similar before -- somehow the component designator
string and the comment string for one of my components got shifted way out.

Try double-clicking on each of those components you selected, and making sure
both of those strings are set to visible ([] Hidden not checked). Then you could
find those strings and move them to the right place.

Or you could delete that component, re-sync to get a fresh copy of that
component placed at the right edge of the board with "normal" component
designator string and comment string, and move that component to where the old,
deleted component once rested. (Most components are easy to snap to exactly
where the old component used to be placed).
