This has been suggested before but I was asked about it yesterday. It would be great to have separate library and simulator fields - rather than sim interface settings taking up library fields. An increasing number of companies seem to be using "One Sch Symbol for each company part" method of running Protel. In this method you have a different sch part for each variant of a component (footprint, resistor value etc). The library fields can then be coded with read only stuff including manufacturer part number company approval numbers etc. The two main downsides with this method; 1) It is not currently possible to lock the footprint an part type fields in the Sch library component. I think it should be possible to fully lock down all aspects of a sch symbol apart from possibly the designator. (So the footprint can be locked, as can the part/value and the part fields.) 2) Sim interface info takes library fields which makes it difficult to design symbols that are botn sim and final design ready. Any comments?
