Hi Ian,

My thoughts below....

While I have not used the simulation capabilities of Protel very much at
all, this may in part be due to the need to draw two circuits - one for the
schematic drawing and a second using simulation ready components.

I agree that seperating the simulation fields from the library fields would
make things more productive and may provide incentive to utilise the
simulation package.

I'm still contemplating the pros and cons of this approach. In my situation
it is still a viable alternative to filling in the appropriate fields of a
generic component. The work involved in setting up the libraries is a
daunting prospect though.

Being able to lock all the information contained within a schematic symbol
would be advantageous not only in the "One Sch Symbol for each company part"
method but also when operating with generic components.
Consider the situation where a change needs to be made to the value of
resistor R21. The value change is easy to accomplish but care needs to be
taken in that the appropriate Part Field needs also to be updated (with the
Part Number ,Description, etc.) This is easy to miss as the Part Fields live
under another tab on the Edit Part dialogue.
If this information was lockable the any attempt to change the value (for
example) would result in Protel issuing a warning.
