One of my typical boards is 11 x 7" (280 x 180 mm) 1400 holes, about 800
components,
many of them are 2-lead passives, however.  These are usually 4 layer, but
some are 6.
I've been using Win 95, previously 64, but now 128 MB, 133 MHz pentium
classic,
and rarely have any trouble.  I hate to change anything when it works!
