Jacob,  I downloaded the WindowsFX and find it has a couple of useful
features, so it is a keeper at $14.95 shareware.  The tool that sets the
maximum size of a maximized window is good. The transparency effects work
just like expected but so far I have only been able to get it to make the
menus transparent, which isn't much help - but nice.

In any case, what is really needed is to integrate these new Win2000 API
features into the layout package so that a transparent window could remain
synchronized with the movements in another window, etc.  But lacking that,
maybe I can get some functionality from the WindowsFX that will help.

BTW for now I copy one pattern to a mech layer of the other while working on
it but I lose the net information etc that I need.  but at least I can see
where things are even if I am not sure what they are.  :o)
