Jacob, I found that for cases where I really want to register library parts
with a PCB while working on them, the following works quite well: I setup
WindosFX for the normal transparency of about 75% on Client99SE.exe. Then I
made a copy of the DDB file, opened it and brought up the PCB and use the
View Area mode to select the registration of the area of interest. Then I
ran a second Client99SE and opened the original DDB file. With both windows
maximized I can achieve exact registration and edit the composite library
part while viewing the PCB layout underneath (even though both are
transparent it works nicely). It is a bit sluggish on my 400 mhz P2 but I
can get exactly the result I want with a lot less frustration. The problems
arise when you want to pan around and have to resynch the windows to the
same area so it is clearly less than optimal. But it works.
Thanks for the tip about WindowsFX.
regards,
Tim Hutcheson
