While I agree library management is necessary, I'd hate to see too rigid a
system, as used
in some of the high end CAD systems I've used before. One thing I really
like about Protel
is that you can break the rules to do something unique.
I would also like to see the "Give every part a symbol" fashion as an
option, not compulsory.
I use an external database system for managing part data and this keeps my
data independent
from what CAD system I use. In terms of managing attributes, parts
information and BOMs it
works brilliantly. Anyone who is interested can email me off-line if you
want to know more.
However, a better way of managing libraries (PCB libraries in particular)
is required. Some
explorer type of interface would be useful. I have to admit copying and
pasting, loosing the
footprint origin, etc is damn annoying and awkward.
