I think you have a point nepbabu. But, in my view its not just Mr. Allen
Tuladhar who promotes microsoft or other proprietary software. There are
also other stakeholders who do that. Remember, Allen is also a businessman
who run business not charity so its obvious and its their right that they
will look for ROI.

Politicians and bureaucrats also support proprietary softwares for which I
think there is two reasons. The first one is because they don't know the
business model of open source, they haven't heard about the success stories
of open source in Nepal yet, and besides there is lots of exercises in
government sector for commissions. Commissions should be stopped right
away!!

There are also some people behind the scene who promote proprietary
softwares, they are consultants and advisor's in different sectors of
government, private, education, health and wherever possible. Most of the
consultants are unaware of the success stories of FOSS, some even don't
know about alternative softwares in FOSS to the ones in proprietary. Some
would rather recommend the proprietary ones even if they know because, they
are also paid commissions from the proprietary software companies per
installation. Commissions should be stopped right away!!

One should not forget that most of the government sector professionals and
consultants work for the production environment, they don't want RnD. They
want the product and services straight. Proprietary softwares mostly claimed
live tested or they give warranties and support. But the FOSS still lacks
adequate support and testing in Nepal. Why should they risk their
investments?

We need to work for that and FOSS Nepal community has a huge
responsibilities in building support centres, generating man power,
teaching businessmen (about business model of FOSS) , politicians,
bureaucrats and consultants about good things (cost, support, success
stories, warranty ), promoting entrepreneurship in FOSS etc. in Nepal. There
are lots to do. So I think nepbabu we have to be aggressive in promotion
for FOSS rather than being aggressive in words to respectful icons like
Allen.

Lets work together to build the capacity.
