Hi abish, im on kubuntu so this might be a little different in my case. My current video player is kaffeine which uses xine engine as backend. Also in ubuntu the recommended setup afaik is to use totem-xine instead of the default totem.
So how to install video support, just run this in the command line sudo aptitude install libxine1-ffmpeg totem-xine in command line and ubuntu should download all necessary files to successfully play your video and audio.
