How i see Linux is as a grand idea of freedom. There is no point in arguing whether Windows and alike proprietary softwares are doing good or not. Advocation of Linux and Open Source is the expression of freedom. And supporting Linux needn't mean using it exclusively, rather promote it driven by the philosophy with which Linux and other open source software are associated. Call it 'blinded-by-the-author' syndrome, but i tend to live by it.
Btw, you got to use the system to know it. So, it makes sense that people started with Windows got fed up and switched to Linux.
