hi all, glad to see some discussions on the topic here n in another thread.
last year too i was on the side of preserving the integrity of the name of the event (Software Freedom Day) and it came to me as a shock that i had to have an argument over it this time again. even the 'voice' was being suggestive on me being retarded [ http://twitter.com/fossnepal/status/3913252977] and i was almost falling for it ;) now as far as prefixing the name of prime sponsor to the event is concerned, i'm not arguing on whether anybody read the proposal or collaborated during the process. the question is, how could we even think of some third party taking over our dignity? the whole event (like any other foss event) is organized by *UNPAID* enthusiastic volunteers who believe in free culture. do u think any sponsor who merely provides financial aid can buy it? if the event is called 'XYZ SFD' why would anybody even want to volunteer for it? we volunteer for SFD because free and open source software is a cause to believe in, not because some XYZ funded it! well, this is not to be taken as a hindrance to the SFD organizing process but as a separate discussion on how our model of working should be. although i am not being able to directly contribute to organizing SFD like previous years, i've been collaborating with bibek on showcasing free enterprise-apps during the event. hope i can be helpful in other ways too.. regards, jwalanta On Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 3:37 PM, Abhudaya Sagar <[email protected]>wrote: > +1 > > > On Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 2:44 PM, Bibek Paudel <[email protected]>wrote: > >> >> Dear All, >> I consider myself a responsible member/volunteer of the Free Software >> Community of Nepal (FOSS Nepal).
