For those who still having the heat up problem, It is mostly seen in hybrid graphics system as the power regression bug is still on for intel processors (GPU) and ubuntu as default is using the on board GPU. To solve this you have two options
- one is to manually compile AMD's catalyst center to be able to switch between the two GPU (I dont remember the link but do search on ubuntu forum for steps )and/or - Another is to disable a lot of features for intel GPU as according to this arcticle( http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel_i915_power&num=1) or http://help.stedman.net.au/2011/10/xubuntu-1110-on-hp-dv6-6023tx.html. It not only worked for me to reduce both heat up and fan noise bit also tremendously increased my battery life from about 2 hours to now 4.5 hours under ubuntu.
