Dear all,

I am not much familiar with this sort of events but I got chance to see the
last Hackathon organized at KU few months ago.

I have visited numerous stall and project's room there and were almost the
imitation of projects laying around internet.

This makes the participants lack to realize the problems associated with
and to address the solution to it.

I would like to suggest, this type of activity should focus on the
fundamental problems in a particular domain of

computation (*computation is the problem solving by algorithmic means*).

For example, someone have developed a project titled "*what you see*" which
allows user to post every events, memory in online

during Hackathon at KU. It was hosted in a server and was some sort
of phpcode which allows you to upload texts, images,

videos etc. The fundamental problem I found is, how they transform the
term "*you see*" to that PHP code, are they addressing

"*you see*" properly ?? Another fundamental problem, the data organization
for every user. They do not see any problem on it.

Consider there were 1000 users (very tiny in an online application), and
each user generates 10 to 20 contents(data) each day.

How does the software organizes the data for individual users?? Because,
some data are useful for particular users only. And so on ...

So, how does the participants identify the problem during Hackathon ???

and what could be the evaluation criteria? Which matters significantly to
the success of the event.

Thank you very much.

Santa
