I'm sorry.   I intended for you to hold off until I had entered the  
patch that automatically reinitializes the comment entry screen to the  
previous value of the comment after a failed commit.  That patch has  
been checked it now.  Give it a try - enable GPG but then force a  
commit failure by not entering the correct GPG password, then commit  
again and see that the comment text that you entered the first time  
reappears on in the editor on the second commit.

Even with this feature, if you still think that -M is necessary, then  
check it in.

We touched some of the same code, so you will likely to have to  
resolve a merge conflict before you commit.
