The key thing about Linux’s contributor base isn’t so much its size as its 
distributedness and hierarchical contribution paths.  I’m sure other projects 
have as many or more lines of code per year going into them.  The Windows 
kernel must, for example, as must the BSDs, since those repos hold more than 
just a kernel.

The thing about most other large projects is that they do not have this 
highly-distributed hierarchical contribution model.  You’re either one of the 
trusted few with a commit bit, or you are not.

Few organizations have the problem that the full power of Git solves.
