Your application image doesn't match then most likely.

Somehow the linecard doesn't recognize the difference between some 5300x and 5400x application images, so it doesn't do an automatic lp sync on boot. Also attempting a manual lp sync doesn't see a problem.

Boot the card in interactive/monitor mode ('rcon lp 3' from console to get into the linecard shell and hit the b when it says so) and then make sure you upgrade the lp monitor, boot, application, xpp, sp2 and xgmac images from the generic commandline in your XMR. Then powercycle the linecard with a power-off and power-on and and it should work.

Thanks to all who answered including private mails.
It was not a problem of wrong module type in configuration etc.
I've downgraded IronWare to 5.2 and now modules are ok:

telnet at NetIron <http://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/foundry-nsp>
MLX-16 Router#show module
         Module Status Ports Starting MAC
M1 (upper): BR-MLX-MR2-M Management Module Active
M2 (lower):
F1: NI-X-HSF Switch Fabric Module Active
F2: NI-X-HSF Switch Fabric Module Active
F3: NI-X-HSF Switch Fabric Module Active
F4:
S1: NI-MLX-10Gx8-D 8-port 10GbE (D) Module CARD_STATE_UP 8
0024.38a1.c900
S2: NI-MLX-10Gx8-D 8-port 10GbE (D) Module CARD_STATE_UP 8
0024.38a1.c930

I will try upgrading to 5.3 later once more time in order to check whether
it causes that problem.

Hi,

we were facing the same problem with a BR-MLX-10Gx4-X card in an XMR chassis. The card constantly rebooted after the message

  rw2_cpu_pkt_buf_init : rx_priority_mode set failed after 6 tries.

We were running software 5.3.0b. We performed an upgrade to 5.3.0c and after that all was fine:

#show module
        Module Status Ports Starting MAC
M1 (left): NI-XMR-MR Management Module Active
..
S3: BR-MLX-10Gx4-X 4-port 10GbE Module CARD_STATE_UP 4 748e.f85c.2d60

It presume therefore there is an issue with version 5.3.0b in relation with this linecard.

Best,
  - Jeroen
