Hi Alex,

Thanks for the information on the Datalink application. By "the whole
thing" I meant the whole Data for Windows program. Our last upgrade for DFW
was version 2.3 and came on a PIMS Suite ver 2.0 cdrom. In order to use the
ODBC drivers for Excel the entire DFW program had to be purchased. At that
time the Data for Windows was priced per client machine. A concurrent
license would be great for us and I'll look into it.

Thanks,
Steve Murray

Re: so it is a bit expensive to buy the whole thing just to get the ODBC
drivers

If you mean that you think you have to buy all of PIMS to get Datalink, you
do not. You can buy it separately. Though the Datalink and FoxExplorer combo
is a pretty good price.

Re: I know the extended sam files are "outside" the Informix database, but
does this mean a generic ODBC driver would not be able to access them like
the Foxboro provided ODBC can?

That is correct. An Informix ODBC driver can only see Informix tables. The
SAM files are not part of Informix. The only access to them is through
AIM*API, FoxAPI, or the Historian's API.

Datalink provides ODBC support for all data in the legacy/data/old/IA
historian.

At least give you Foxboro Account Rep a call and see what Datalink costs and
what the combination costs. I think you might be surprised (to the good
side). Unless I'm mistaken (and it does happen) we now offer concurrent
licensing so you can buy a few and let everyone have occasional access.

Hope this helps.
