Pedro,
I am not familiar with Exceed at all, but I remember doing this with my
Macintosh a long time ago (in a place far, far, away). I dug out the old
MacX documentation--I hope you can find the equivalents in Exceed. Here
are some excerpts from the MacX docco that might be useful.
"For people who prefer the traditional X Window System environment, MacX
provides a different style of operation, called ROOTED, which displays a
root window. In this style, you must run a different window manager, such
as twm, because the MacX window manager runs only in roorless style."
"Before starting rooted clients, remember that you;ll need to start up a
window manager first so that you can move and resize your client windows
when they appear on the screen. ... Issuing a remote command is one way to
start up a window manager. For example, you could start up a twm in a
black and white [Ed. Wow!, "black and white" this really is old!] root
window by typing:
setenv DISPLAY "<your_display_designation>" ; /usr/bin/X11/twm -s &
Be sure to choose B&W Rooted (screen number 1) or Color Rooted (screen
number 3) from the Display pop-up menu before executing this command."
"Another way to start up a window manager is to start a terminal emulator,
and then type the command to start up a window manager in the emulator's
window. For example, to start up twm in an xterm window, simply [Ed. I
love the use of the word, 'simply' here] type
/usr/bin/X11/twm &
at a system prompt."
My Open Look manual says the name of the Open Look window manager is olwm. Try
olwm -3d &
where the -3d option specifies that olwm should use a three-dimensional look.
With any luck, there is some correlation between the rooted and rootles
modes of MacX to something in Exceed. Hopefully this gives you something
to try. All this comes from documentation that is dated 1992, so if
someone else has updated information, please chime in.
