Regarding loading on AB Stations, you can run a 0.5 sec BPC with the same
type of issues you see on a CP30 - although the AB Station will support
1000 block equivalents, you can only use about 100 blocks if you want them
all running every 0.5 sec.
AB Station loading problems have been one of the hot button issues here
since our mill startup 4 years ago. Our systems integrator had worked with
AB Gateways before rather than AB Stations and had not forseen the
limitations they would run into setting up 900+ CIN and COUT blocks on each
AB Station (or so it was explained to me). We've been fighting this ever
since. We have replaced a lot of the CIN and COUT blocks with MCIN (and
BLNALM) and MCOUT blocks, however these blocks leave a lot to be desired
for system documentation and troubleshooting.
I would love to see a CP40 based AB Station that would let us take our
block periods back to 0.5 sec, but I won't hold my breath.
