I think keeping your mind open to negotiation in certain circumstances
is a great idea, however I'm not one for lowering prices. I put my
prices up last year and was very nervous about it. But you know -
those who balk would have balked at the prices I had before! They are
always the same ones.

This year is a little slower but I'm still getting bookings. I'm just
coming out of my slow season (in Florida) and will be gearing up here
within the next month and going full steam through beginning of May.
What do I do during slow times? Marketing. That's when I work on
making contacts, networking and building my business. No matter how
busy you are you can always continue to build your business. I think
the biggest mistake we make (and I've done it) is to become complacent
with the promotional end of our business. An excellent piece of
advise? Get Katie Hunt's Marketing notes. She is the queen at
marketing yourself without spending a lot of money or no money at
all!

The other thing I do when business slows down is do new photography.
My daughter is 17. I invite her friends over for an afternoon of pizza
and snacks and they all get painted. I set up a photo backdrop, get
out the big camera and do some pics for my Web site as well as any
future promotional materials. (I get full model releases from kids and
parents). This helps keep my face painting pictures updated.

Good luck!
