Hello Sharon, I too, have had a few bumps in the road to finding my true love of this art *Face Painting*. I have been set-up next to *free face painting* I have been set-up next to the new bee and had her hawk (call over people) to an empty chair in a shout voice no line here!! You are the established one and your customers will come to back to you. I have laid awake worrying about my artwork being good enough, is the price too high? is the line too long? Let's be smart business people and let your work & true love for the art show thru... Some of my loyal clients really helped me threw our local county fair. Just eight feet away the fair manger set-up my rival. I painted with all the passion and swirls and curls I could think of... I wouldn't take a break until 8:00pm just to finish the crowd. I was sooo blessed with business again she had to hawk them from us. My husband (Air Brusher) had to really put out the 12 faces he has learned. I gave away marti gras beads ,I held their hand to the mirror, I would bend down to personally greet each customer (smaller ones) and help them up the ladder stairs. I wanted and earned the crown of the *B-Dazzzler* the stress did lift after I told myself to just do the very best faces I could make and give them the moon. In your home town you have to keep the edge up these people see you at every event. Your kind personality and pizzazz sell you and your product. We made it, I even sacrificed seeing one song of American Idol ,Kelly Pickler to guard my customers from the other booth. I had to *be there* My poor ,sweet husband landed in the local paper front page (not me) LOL with his signature rainbow butterfly face on a super cutie little customer. This gave him a new passion and direction for face painting. So each challenge and bump really is a learning lesson of how to conduct yourselves in the public eye. Just a little food for thought.... We just had the *peak in our 13 years* at the state fair the other face painters retired last year and the state moved a two hundred seat stage right next to our booth. I went back to the R.V. at 11:30 pm or later in pain from giving it my all to please the line. Thank goodness for massage therapy. All my tips went into my back and forearms...HEEHAW. I may complain but I'm LOVIN' every minute of the adrenaline rush from making people happy. The joy and smiles are a true form of payment. smiles to you,Invest in yourselves attend the Conventions and jam-til mid-night!!! Ruth Ann B-DAzzzled!
