Well, the truth of the 2009 FPBA Convention is, that some folks have managed to suck almost all of the JOY, out of producing the them. A few "bad apples" along the way have developed into more like a bushel this year. One needs to be a psychologist, a referee and keep a scorecard to produce the darn thing! Just a few of this years "concerns".
1) "If "that" vendor attends, then I will not" 2) "If "that" instructor attends, then I will not" 3) "If I am a sponsor, everyone MUST only use MY product at the ENTIRE Convention" (HUH?!) 4) "If I am a sponsor than "that" instructor cannot attend or teach" You've got to be kidding! How can one produce a successful and meaningful event with these ridiculous parameters? Our line of business is TOO SMALL to have "exclusives" and to cater to "demands". That is just my humble opinion after 8 years of producing this event. So, I think I know of which I speak. I am trying to be "Switzerland" (Neutral and a peacemaker) I am sure the vendor room was a bit uncomfortable for some......since they chose to make it so. When Wolfe Co marked EVERYTHING 1/2 price. It hurt ALL the vendors in the room because most of the dollars from many of the vendors (not just Diamond FX) shifted to Wolfe Co.to take advantage of the amazing offer. Free enterprise. A make up war is great for the consumer tho. But then in the long run, one wonders about the Wolfe makeup if they can afford to sell at 50% off and still make a good profit. Have we been price gouged all long?, I was asked by several attendees. I have no answers. Only questions like everyone else. I am not privy to all the details of their disagreement or business arrangement. At this moment, it's one person's (company's) word against another and whomever screams loudest, hopes to be the victor. It's not my battle nor my place to judge "the truth". In America, I think we are still innocent until proven guilty. But to close on a good note, the FPBA Convention will continue on in 2010, but with another idealistic, energetic and dedicated person at the helm. It will be moved to Las Vegas in 2010. More details will be announced soon. I have enjoyed my 8 year run, (FABAIC,FPBAC,FPBAA,FPBAM) with this community of artists. I hope that you have personally grown as an artist by attending my Conventions through the years, found new friends, been inspired and rejuvenated and that you have been nurtured in other ways as well. This year, it became very clear to me that I need to close the door on this chapter of my life. that my job is done here. I will treasure this experience and all the little notes of appreciation that many of you have taken the time to write to me. Colorfully Yours!
