I guess my question is, since there is no money in it, and there is not a lot of money to spare in the world these days (unless you find some really hard core wealthy person willing to give it all to the face painting community for educational growth and networking)...why are we having multiple conventions in the same country. Why not just pool resources and turn out for the biggest and the best convention ever.....is it because of the PG-13 thing? Since I went to the January convention last year and it was far from what I would want a child to see. Plus there were no kids there, except those with face painter parents...who have seen all the nudity before. The language, the partying, and even some of the body painting was not really kid friendly, despite the best efforts of the organizers. This year I cannot say, since I did not attend. I am now saving my pennies for one convention, besides anything local that comes my way. But two------not this year. I will go to the one that has the most instructors, the nicest hotel, the widest array of entertainment and the greatest support staff and vendor room.....since I have limited resources.
Recently, a great person in my town with a great location and a wonderful concept for a kids play place closed her doors. She had it all, classes for the kids, a spa for the moms, personal training for both youth and adults and a café that served healthy kid friendly food and fun salads and wraps for the moms. But, she had never investigated what it took in terms of class enrollment or open fees for playing to support her business, and she dug herself into debt so far that one weekend, she decided to close her 7500 square foot place. It is a shame that so many of us do not make wise decisions regarding growth, market need and trends in the economy. Now is not the time to host yet another convention in a more expensive location.....Folks, some of the industry can't make it to the conventions in our own towns, let alone travel out of state or across the country....no matter what the benefit. Let's really evaluate the market need....or look for that rich sponsor if having a convention with sparse attendance is really the goal. I am sorry if I sound a little nudgy....but I can barely afford to go to one....let alone two???? My two cents,,,,,don't take it personally.
