The festival I'm involved with juries ~all~ its vendors, and never has space
for more than about 2/3 of the entries. There are some public guidelines, as
our goal is to promote and support sustainable living and homecrafts. (If
it's made in China, it better have been made by you, while in China) Our
only third-party vendor is the representative from a village in Ecuador. The
village makes the products and receives the sales proceeds directly.

The criterion for the jurying process is not all public. One thing is "was
this vendor a good 'citizen' last year?" We had a vendor who was rude,
arrogant and snide to the volunteers and coordinators. She won't be back.

Our festival's product base is diverse enough that a price war is unlikely.
Personally, I'm free market enough to figure, "better for the buyer." OTOH,
were I a vendor, I don't know if I'd come back to a convention where I had
to worry about a similar product effectively getting dumped on the
micromarket. If I were the dumper, I'd be concerned about the practice
coming back to bite me in the tushy- but then, I wasn't there. Pity. I do
like a bargain.
