Try a zip lock plastic bag to bring your sponges home in and to hold till you wash them...not for a week, but overnight, it will keep the sponges damp until you are ready to wash them. Personally, I use The Masters Brush Cleaner and Conditioner. Red and green are still an issue unless cleaned out in a timely fashion. I've dedicated a sponge for red and a green so I don't stain any more.
