You said you are using ubuntu? and have you tried the -dev version of 
ImageMagick? (it there is any, me and many others, AFAIK including 
Daniel, are using gentoo where there are no such things as -dev and 
"normal" versions)

another way is to download the patch I posted here (the first or last 
one, the middle one is bugged) and enable only the upeksonly driver 
(ImageMagick is only for aes4000)
