I have a friend that has become a reporter for several local papers that are owned by the Herald. She tells me that the reporters are paid by the article and that if there hasn't been enough ad space sold that good articles do not get in, making it hard for reporters to make a living. She also has told me that some editors now edit several papers and are stretched to the limit. Of course none of this explains or excuses such poor editing or reporting (as in the cse of the article yesterday), but one has to wonder what direction the press is headed in. I for one am considering cancelling both my subscription to the local paper and the Globe. I long for the days when reporting was to get the facts and to inform the public in a non biased way.
