The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions (MACC) Newsletter (May/August Issue) has an article on this subject. Check this website for the full (but very short article) www.maccweb.org . I just received the newsletter yesterday so it is possible that it is not posted yet. The article title is "MACC Endorses DPH Mosquito Control Guidelines, Faults Reclamation Board". Most dramatic sentence in the article is "...DPH DOES NOT recommend spraying of chemical pesticides to kill adult mosquitoes except in very high risk, localized situations where human disease is present along with other risk indicators...." DPH is the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The Reclamation Board is a group that oversees the Mosquito Control Districts. >From this article it appears that this Reclamation Board was suppose to develop best management practices, standards and studies for mosquito control and has failed to do so. MACC does ask that comments, incidents etc., be sent to MACC, the Reclamation Board, the Governor and your legislators to resolve the blatant violation.
