Hi John,

Something to check is whether or not the <$chapnum> variable is actually being 
used to number your chapters. There are many different ways to set up this kind 
of numbering. Frequently, older templates simply use <n+> style building blocks 
in the paragraph formats to achieve this kind of numbering. If that's the case 
with your template, try setting the numbering for all files in the book to 
"Continue numbering from previous paragraph in book." Update the book and see 
what you get.
