I have FM10.0.2.419 on a 64bit Win 7 machine and can print books to PDF. In
checking this out, I did find out that it does NOT work if the document
files that make up the book are not open. (I usually have all the files open
in order to speed the process, but a test shows the book doesn't print a PDF
if the files are NOT open. There is no error message it just doesn't do
anything.)

I am printing them by selecting only the book file and then right clicking
and choosing print selected files.

Acrobat X is kind of funky though. It doesn't post alerts to the screen when
there are problems. Instead, it adds a document to the taskbar which you
have to click on to see. This applies to situations where you are being
asked to name the file and choose where it will be stored. It certainly
would be better if it brought this things to your attention directly on the
screen via a pop-up dialog.

Also, it is important to set the acrobat printer setting so that under the
Adobe PDF Settings tab, uncheck the setting for "Rely on system fonts only;
do not use document fonts".

I hope that is helpful.

We ran into the same problem when one of our writers accidentally was given
a 64-bit Win7 machine, whereas the rest of the department had 32-bit
machines and no problems.

We "solved" the problem by replacing his machine with a 32-bit one like the
rest of us. Doesn't really solve your problem, but verifies that it is a
real problem with FM9/Acrobat X Pro and 64-bit Win7.

As we fixed the problem in a simple way, we did not spend time researching
whether there is a fix for it on 64-bit systems.

I recently received a computer with the following specs:

64 bit

Windows 7

1.36 TB Hard Drive (1.27 TB free space)

16.0 GB RAM

3.30 GHz Processor

Currently I am running FM 9 and Acrobat X Pro and I have discovered that I
can no longer create PDFs in FrameMaker. I was able to get a PDF of a
single file once, but never a book PDF. If I move the book to my local
drive, I can create book PDFs but I cannot do this from the network. This
was not an issue on my 32 bit machine (FrameMaker 9, Acrobat 8, Windows 7).

I have tried installing the FrameMaker 10 trial to see if that would solve
the issue. I’ve also tried reverting back to Acrobat 8 and that didn’t
solve the issue either. I’ve tried the “Save Book As”, “Save as PDF”, and
the “Print Book” methods. None work. I am not receiving any error
messages, FrameMaker just goes into a Not Responding state.

I do not have a problem creating PDFs from Word or any other programs on the
network.

Any ideas?
