Docs that are free of cruft are easier to maintain and easier for some future writer to take over.
Often when I've inherited .fm files from other writers 90% of what's on the reference pages is cruft. That's of no concern until there's a problem, at which point it can greatly increase the amount of time required to troubleshoot and resolve it. At that point I usually just clean out all the cruft.
