Another consideration as to applying page labels (regardless of whether done manually in Acrobat or through FrameMaker plug-ins), is that unfortunately, Adobe's support for page labels in recent versions of Acrobat/Reader is not as consistent as it used to be:
* Acrobat/Reader 7.0x do no show page labels when dragging the vertical scrolling bar (PDFs displayed in a single-page mode). * Acrobat/Reader 6 or 7: page numbers in the tool tips for search results relate to the physical numbers in the PDF, not to the page labels (actual page numbers). If your documentation is distributed primarily or exclusively as PDFs, this may be a consideration since users find it confusing to differentiate between the two numbering systems, and it can also cause communication problems between tech support and users (e.g. "look at the instructions on page 74").
