Hi Karen A while ago we needed to track down multiple named destinations and someone in our group worked out how. He generated an Alphabetical List of Markers of type Cross-Ref, which includes the marker ID. Then he saved that as text and imported it into Excel. The IDs end up in one column that you can sort and search for duplicates. By turning on hypertext links in the list of markers, we could find problem markers in the source FM files and sort them out.
We had managed to make multiple identical markers by creating lots of short documents from a template, and later combining them into one document. The template included functional cross-references. When we wrote a document from the template, we found out the hard way that FM didn't change the destination markers. So lots of our short documents had identical xref destinations. Fine in the short documents, but a total write-off in the final long document - each xref pointed to the first example of that destination in the long document. So that's a situation where you can't just ignore multiple named destinations. Needless to say, our template no longer includes working cross-references. ;-( Cheers, Rebecca >>> "Karen Mardahl" <k.mardahl at gmail.com> 5/07/06 22:39 >>> Hi I have the infamous error message in my Distiller: % [ Warning: The following Names in Name Tree Dests were defined more than once ] % I simply cannot clean up these files (in FM 7.1p116/WinXP). I have tried * roundtripping MIF (FM > MIF > FM) with simple Save As. * searching for these numbers in the MIF files (found 2 that start with I and none that start with G out of 73!) * being good at updating book regularly (I use conditional text and toggle a lot between the various versions) * Using ITL's lovely Report Paragraph Overrides script to find miscreants I CANNOT use the optimize feature. It just fails. It says it cannot open the very first file in the book. I even replaced that first file (just the cover page of the book, easy to do). If I remove the Cancel on Error, it goes through the optimizing process, but says it processed 0 files. I can optimize single files, but that seems of no value at all. I also feel like the original bunch might have gone, but new ones have taken their place. We get big frowns from our manager for having these stragglers and I don't know what to do!!! Help, anyone? It would be greatly appreciated! regards, Karen Mardahl _______________________________________________ You are currently subscribed to Framers as rebecca.officer at alliedtelesyn.co.nz.
