Hello Kitty,

First thing that comes to mind is Trinh T. Minh-ha's films from the mid-80s=
, _Reassemblage_ and _Naked Spaces: Living is Round_, which are very much a=
bout the position of the filmmaker in relation to the ethnographic subject =
(in both cases, village life in various West African locations). Both are s=
treaming on Kanopy (along with two more, _Surname Viet Given Name Nam_ and =
_Forgetting Vietnam_).

More recently, Sky Hopinka has been producing a whole bunch of short films =
over the last decade doing some new form of ethno-documentary in an experim=
ental mode; a bunch of them have passed through Mubi over the last couple y=
ears but the only one I know of that's currently on the net is _Malni_, whi=
ch is on Kanopy for free or Amazon for rental.
