I'm using cyber direct power director, a pretty basic software. You can upload
directly online, which I have had no problem doing until now, with the longer
work. My internet connection is very fast, and I don't use wifi. My tech
abilities are not much far more advanced than on/off.

It definitely can be done.  I've done
 it at 1080.

 Some ideas:
Re-export it from your editing program and double
check settings, or use Compressor, or even QuickTime can
save videos in different formats.  Or Final Cut X and maybe
other programs can upload directly to
 YouTube.

Make sure the video is h264
It may need to be prepared for Internet
streaming ("fast start" is turned on if you have
any settings to check when exporting).  Although this seems
to be going away - newer programs I use don't have this
option anymore and YouTube will now process your video for
 you after the upload.

Check your internet connection and upload speed
 at speedtest.net
Plug the computer into Ethernet rather than
 using wifi

And let the list know what codecs and settings
you are using on your video.

 It
would help if you explained your workflow for the files
you're trying to upload to YT: what codec you're
using in what program with what settings.
