They are working on a film softener too (if anybody is interested in sending
(Vinegar) Films that can be used to test, they are happy to take them, I can
give you the contact details). She wouldn't tell me what the softener is, as
they want to get a patent, but I can tell you that the simple plastic box that
I stored the films in also got soft and changed shape ;-)

My mag tracks had vinegar syndrom and one of them fell into tiny flakes before
the treatment. I was unable to take them off the spools without having loads of
pieces in my hands, one of them was also curling heavily.
After the treatment they are soft again I've rewound them and the really bad
parts at the start were still curly and likely to split, but far far, far less
than before (I believe that the film already had tiny scratches). I was offered
a second treatment, but I want to check if I can already run the films through
a machine, concerning the softness of the material, it should be possible now.
Maybe the curly parts will straighten too, now that I've changed the winding,
so far I haven't had time to double check them. The treatment does not revert
shrinkage, it only makes the film soft again. My films are 50-60 years old.
Shrinkage (before and after I'd assume): 1,3 + 2,54 + 3,6
