It is probably too late to fix this, but the script should use this:
if ! PREFIX=$(expr $0 : "\(/.*\)/bin/$(basename $0)\$"); then
echo "$0: Cannot determine the PREFIX" >&2
exit 1
fi
(or maybe only do this if PREFIX isn't in the env)
