The maximum number of CPUs that 6.2 will make use of is 16 (kern.smp.maxcpus: 16). I don't know if it will be raised in 7.0, but since 7.x should support UltraSPARC T1, it might. How efficient are multiple CPUs supported depends on what you want to do with them. For example, if you plan using the machine for numerically intensive tasks, efficiency is almost perfect :)
