I have a vague recollection that '+' is troublesome in the DOS/FAT world.
Wikipedia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8.3_filename#Directory_table> seems
to agree.
While Win95/98/Me may be behind us, FAT probably isn't, sadly.
