Follow-up Comment #2, bug #24053 (project freeciv):

Some problems with this approach:
* It's necessary to also rename the installed scenario from Europe_1901.sav.gz
to something like Europe_1901_2.5.sav.gz, to avoid the 2.5/scenarios/ version
being hidden by an already-installed scenarios/Europe_1901.sav.gz. (Of course
the user in this situation will see two copies, and the only way to fix it is
manual surgery in ~/.freeciv/ .)
** Unfortunately I don't think we can use this to solve our problem by
renaming the 2.6+ installed copy to Europe_1901.sav.*, as I think the modpack
installer scenario directories are earlier on the search path. (I *think*
it'll ignore any .gz/.bz2 mismatch, too. All untested.)
* The type would have to change from "Scenario" to something else like
"Modpack", which is a shame (because Scenarios are not allowed to install
stuff in DATASUBDIR).
** It also means that the modpack-installer GUI would lose track of the
installed version, because a Scenario called "Europe 1901" would no longer be
in the modpack list on modpack.freeciv.org; so "Europe 1901" would show up as
"Not installed" even if the 2.5-01 or 2.5-02 were in fact installed.
