Follow-up Comment #2, bug #24359 (project freeciv):
There IS literal "$HOME" (followed with "/.config") in our Qt-client sources,
which is very unlikely to be an coincidence:
> grep -r "\$HOME" client/gui-qt
client/gui-qt/fc_client.cpp: "$HOME/.config");
