True. Perhaps load up the conversion strings from the catalogue just once when help starts. You mentioned in a previous email "forcing" the catalogue creator to put the code page into one of the messages. So I would know the intended code page for that catalogue file. HELP tries to detect display.sys: - If it is not installed, CP 437 is assumed. Compromise where necessary (Á would have to be represented by A). - If it is installed but the display code page doesn't match the catalogue's code page, then use 7-bit ASCII. For instance, using just a,e,i instead of accented characters. Better than displaying complete nonsense, surely. - If the code pages match, then we use the conversion strings stored in the catalogue file. The catalogue message strings would be allowed to contain html character entities. HELP would convert these using the rules above.
